Introduction: Sharing Struggles and Questions

“I started CrossFit, but I don’t know what’s the most efficient way to get stronger.” Scrolling through social media, you’ll find endless advice—but which one really works? Maybe you’ve bought programs but couldn’t follow them fully, or felt that your weaknesses weren’t being addressed. You may think: “It’s hard to stay consistent alone,” or “I want to push harder, become more of an Athlete, but I keep running into setbacks.” Overtraining can lead to fatigue, burnout at work or at home, and even injuries. I believe many of you reading this have felt the same way. I certainly have. Before I dive deeper into what this blog is about, let me share a bit of my story.

My Story

How I Started Training

I began strength training in high school during my time on the soccer team, when injuries kept me sidelined. That’s when I discovered weight training, and I quickly got hooked. Even through university and beyond, I kept lifting. As an adult, I dabbled in martial arts but always came back to bodybuilding. Back then, YouTubers with superhuman physiques were popular, and I admired that. But during the COVID-19 lockdowns, gyms closed, and I lost motivation. Around that time, I stumbled upon a YouTube video of the CrossFit Games 2019(below). Seeing muscular athletes not just lifting heavy weights but also running, performing gymnastic movements, and mastering diverse skills blew my mind. It wasn’t just about size—it was about functionality, versatility, and treating training as a sport. I was instantly drawn in. I soon joined a local CrossFit box. I thought my training background would make it easy—but I was wrong. Even workouts like Cindy crushed me. Sometimes I was so wired afterward that I couldn’t sleep at night. Yet, it was exhilarating. From then on, I was hooked.

I love this video.

Balancing Work and Training (The Struggles)

At the time, I was working as an orthopedic physiotherapist. My schedule allowed for open gym sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, so I tried following popular online programs like The Program, TTT, and Mayhem. But I quickly ran into problems: scaling workouts properly, addressing my weak points (gymnastics, strength, cardio—you name it), and limited gym access outside of CrossFit boxes. Commercial gyms didn’t allow me to perform CrossFit-style training, so I couldn’t follow the programs as written. Worse, the focus of those programs often didn’t align with my personal weaknesses (like grip strength or pulling strength). When my work shifts changed, I lost even more training opportunities. Eventually, I stopped buying programs and tried designing my own training. I thought my background in physiology and strength training would help. But I learned that knowing is not the same as doing. That realization reignited my passion—I wanted to close the gap between knowledge and action.

Why I Started Sho Workout Geek

At first, I just wanted a place to record my training—so I started this blog and a YouTube channel. But quickly I realized: simply logging workouts wasn’t engaging. Instead, I thought: what if I shared my mistakes, lessons, and insights, combining them with my professional knowledge? That could actually help others. I’m committed to lifelong training. I believe the best knowledge comes from people who practice what they preach. I want to be that person—someone who learns by doing, and shares it openly. That’s why I started Sho Workout Geek: to share the joy of self-improvement through passion, knowledge, and lived experience.

5 Key Problems Sho Workout Geek Solves

1. Confusion from Information Overload

The internet is full of advice. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t. I’ve been lost in that sea of information myself. On this blog, I share what I’ve actually tried—what worked, what didn’t—and connect it with science, so you can make better choices.

2. The Gap Between Knowledge and Action

Having knowledge isn’t enough. The challenge is applying it to your training. I explain the “why” behind each method and provide practical ways you can adapt it, so your training becomes more effective and meaningful.

3. Struggles with Consistency and Loneliness

Training alone is tough. Through this blog and my YouTube channel, I want you to feel you’re not alone. Comment, share, and let’s encourage each other. Together, we can keep going.

4. Lack of Athlete Identity

I define an Athlete as anyone—professional or amateur—who consistently strives to improve performance. If you’re here reading, learning, and pushing forward, you are an Athlete. This blog is here to help you strengthen that identity.

5. Fear of Plateaus

Plateaus happen to everyone. I’ll document my own growth process, including struggles and breakthroughs. By sharing both the methods and the results, I’ll show you that progress is always possible.

The Role and Strengths of This Blog

This blog isn’t just another how-to guide—it’s both a companion and a guide. I combine science-backed explanations with raw, unfiltered growth stories. Knowledge alone is easy to find online, but lived knowledge is rare. Here, I record both practice and reality. That transparency is what makes this space unique. Most importantly, this blog is not just about me. It’s about you, too. By engaging with the content, you’re shaping your own Athlete identity. Sho Workout Geek is your roadmap to becoming an Athlete—helping you overcome confusion, loneliness, and plateaus with science and story.
